Our History
A journey of resilience and transformation
1980 – 1987: The Vision
n 1980, Father Morer envisioned creating a school in the Buberuka region. In 1982, the Association for the Development of Buberuka (ADEBU) was founded to establish a secondary school. On September 13, 1987, the school opened under the name ADEBU, welcoming its first 53 students thanks to about 120 parents.
1988 – 1993: Growth & Partnership
In 1988, ADEBU received land from the Diocese. In 1990, the Brothers of Christian Instruction (FIC) were invited to take charge. By 1992, ADEBU handed the school to the Diocese, which entrusted FIC with leadership. The institution became FIC-ADEBU School. In 1993, insecurity forced a temporary relocation to Nyarutarama.
1994 – 1999: Resilience Through Adversity
In April 1994, the school closed due to the Genocide against the Tutsi. It reopened in January 1996 under FIC leadership. In March 1998, the school was attacked and closed, forcing the Brothers to leave. Rwandan laypeople reopened it in 1999 in collaboration with the Brothers.
2000: Present
In September 2000, the school became a Teacher Training College (École Normale Primaire) as a subsidized school, renamed ENP/TTC-FIC ADEBU. In 2001, the Brothers returned to lead. In 2002, Jean Marie de la Mennais became the school's Patron, giving it the name ENP/TTC Jean-de-la-Mennais de Kirambo — a name it proudly carries to this day.
